During a lackluster campaign at the Italian Open, Novak Djokovic was met with a freak accident. Following his round-of-64 win over Corentin Moutet, the Serbian tennis player was signing autographs at the Foro Italico when a metal water bottle dropped out of a fan’s backpack and struck him on the head. Just like the current number 1 player on the men’s tour, the world No. 1 in women’s singles, Iga Świątek was also recently on the verge of sustaining an injury to her head.

Prior to her semifinal victory at the Italian Open, the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion escaped a serious injury to her head when she was trying to stay hydrated on the court. The door of the court’s mini fridge nearly closed on the Pole’s head as she reached for a water bottle, but she immediately stepped back to avoid any accident. A video clip of Świątek managing to escape a head injury was also brought to light on Twitter by her fan page. The post stated, “She managed to escape 🫣”

In a blockbuster semifinal in Rome, the top-seeded Polish player was up against her third-seeded American opponent, Coco Gauff. Justifying her moniker of ‘Queen of Clay,’ Świątek thumped Gauff in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the championship game of the WTA 1000 event. However, it was that incident when she nearly got struck by the fridge’s door that concerned a flurry of fans on social media.

Fans react to Iga Świątek managing to escape a head injury at the Italian Open

The video clip of the Pole managing to escape a head injury also caught the attention of other fans on Twitter as they flocked to the comments section to drop their reactions. After her male counterpart, Djokovic, the WTA player almost got struck on the head during her campaign in Rome. Notably, a fan demanded that an “investigation is needed” at the Italian Open.

Similarly, another fan asserted that ‘Rome’ is ‘attacking’ number 1s, as both Świątek and Djokovic are currently ranked number 1 on their respective tours.

Meanwhile, a fan suggested that it was a ‘trap’ set up by her opponent, Gauff, who complained about Swiatek’s water breaks during her serve.

In the comments, a user hilariously labeled the court’s fridge’s door as a “missile.”
