When Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made his long-awaited return to the WWE this year, no one thought fans would be calling him The Final Boss. The babyface hero turned heel and aligned himself with his cousin Roman Reigns to face Cody Rhodes. In a feud about family and honor, Johnson brought back the 2002 heel Rock fans knew and loved. While fans wait for his return to continue his feud with Rhodes, Brock Lesnar has the moniker of The Final Boss.

Well, that is according to a current WWE star who has earmarked Lesnar as an opponent whenever he makes a comeback to the promotion.

For the WWE Universe, a dream match they’ve been waiting for is Brock Lesnar vs. Gunther—The Beast versus The Ring General. While the WWE had plans to make this fantasy booking come to life, reality had other plans. After being outed for his involvement in the Vince McMahon scandal, all ties between the company and Lesnar were cut. This also included all plans for his return during the Mania season. However, it turns out Gunther wanted the match and claimed that Lesnar was his Final Boss.

During his interview with the Daily Mail, Gunther said, “I always saw Brock as my final boss. I always get portrayed as that, as the NXT UK Champion, the Intercontinental Champion, I was like the final boss of that division, and Brock, for a long time, was the final boss of the whole company.” The Ring General considered The Beast to be The Final Boss of the entire company. The match between the two would showcase brawn and brain as Gunther and Lesnar have torn through the WWE division with ease. While the two did face off in the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble, fans wanted more.

Back in November 2023, Gunther reiterated the same sentiment with Phil Strum of Under The Ring. During this interview, he first professed his desire to face Lesnar. Gunther said, “I feel Brock is somebody, I just make it my thing, I make him my personal End Boss.” While he did not use the term ‘Final Boss’, the end boss is close enough.

This was months before Johnson returned to the WWE and began using the moniker for himself. In a hilarious turn of events, AEW’s Samoa Joe’s merch was promoted as ‘The Final Boss. So the question remains: How many final bosses are there in wrestling? Tell us what you think of Gunther vs. Lesnar. Would you watch it? Tell us in the comments.
