Legendary Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Rajasthan Royals’ young batting sensation Riyan Parag for his exceptional performance in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Gavaskar lauded Parag for his consistency and encouraged him to maintain his excellent form with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2024. He even predicted that Parag could receive a maiden call-up to the Indian cricket team if he continues to perform consistently for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the tournament.

Parag was doing well in the previous IPL seasons, but he struggled to maintain momentum. However, this season, the cricket world is witnessing a different kind of Assam star who has shown signs of brilliance as a batter in the tournament.

Riyan Parag impresses Sunil Gavaskar with his IPL 2024 show

He managed to translate his exceptional domestic form into the ongoing IPL 2024 and made every one of his fans. The youngster has already scored three half-centuries in five games so far in the ongoing IPL 2024 and amassed 261 runs, securing the second spot in the Orange Cap standings.

Meanwhile, Parag capitalized on two dropped catches and made the most of the opportunity by hitting five sixes en route to his amazing knock of 76 runs from just 48 balls against the Gujarat Titans (GT). Praising the youngster, Gavaskar said that the Gujarat Titans (GT) paid the price for their mistakes.

However, Rajasthan Royals (RR) suffered their first defeat of the season with Gujarat Titans (GT) winning the 24th game of the ongoing IPL 2024 by 3 wickets in Jaipur on April 11.

“I call them mixed pakodas”: Sunil Gavaskar on Riyan Parag’s bowling

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports: “Riyan Parag made Gujarat pay for those lapses. That’s what cricket is all about. You get an opportunity and you make the most of it. And he has made the most of it. He is playing some unbelievable cricket.”

Gavaskar added, “Not just in the IPL, but right through the season, he has had enormous success. He is someone that the selection committee has got an eye on. And so, all he needs to do is keep on batting the way he has been. His fielding, we all know about it, he is an excellent fielder. And he can bowl a few of those dribbly-dobblies, I call them mixed pakodas.”

Speaking about the game, Shubman Gill played a captain’s knock of 72 off 44 balls, while Rashid Khan’s cameo of 24 from 11 balls helped the Gujarat Titans (GT) seal the game in the last-ball thriller against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur.

However, it was Rajasthan’s first defeat in the tournament, but they remained the number one ranked team in the IPL 2024 points table, while Gujarat jumped to the sixth spot in the standings. Rajasthan will next face the Punjab Kings (PBSK) on April 13, while Gujarat will take on the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 17 in their respective next matches in the tournament.
